A Common Platform

This site is to help Canadian Healthcare provider facilities that utilize medical products and equipment to quickly and easily connect with other facilities and with the supplier community in times of product shortages, or when searching for difficult-to-find items. The site is also intended to assist both healthcare provider facilities and suppliers to re-purpose extra and excess product and equipment.

After a turbulent few years of product shortages, supply chain challenges, and perhaps a bit of chaos within medical device procurement, the idea of having a centralized platform for all of Canada to collaborate and share extra products and equipment with others across the country, became a real need.

The Role of Suppliers

This industry heavily depends on the fantastic Canadian supplier and distributor partners that go to great lengths in order to mobilize products and fulfil the needs of the Canadian market. Suppliers and Distributors have an important role on this platform, as you may be able to help with similar substitutes, missing parts and pieces, and may have offers for end-of-lines, gently used demo equipment, or excess product supply that needs to be liquidated. Most suppliers accumulate no-move product that could be sold, rather than written off and discarded. Utilizing extra product for patient care within our country, should be the priority.

The site does not replace regular purchases and contracted arrangements between customers and suppliers. Regular activity should continue to take place. Most contracts allow for a small percentage of purchases that may be purchased off contract for exceptional situations and emergencies.

This site will only work if we all get subscribed. Only then, can everyone be connected and share and utilize extra Canadian supplies effectively. It is most useful if procurement-type individuals subscribe rather than administrative or others. The site shows a dashboard of products and their details that are either products in need, or products to be offered. The dashboard is most relevant to the individuals that manage supply chain and products on a daily basis, and those who are very familiar with medical products and equipment.

Connecting:

If you are a medical device supplier, do not attempt to connect and procure competitive products for your own use. Your identity will be revealed at the time of connection and you will have wasted valuable time.

Buyers and Sellers must conduct their own due diligence to ensure they are transacting properly with a valid partner. This is the responsibility of connected Users, and not MedMate.

Users should ensure they are not transferring product that would be considered unlawful, or into grey or illegal markets.

If a User is donating product to be used for “mission work” outside of Canada, it is up to the provider of the products to ensure that product labels and bar codes are marked, and a written agreement with the other party indicates what and where the product will be used, and that it may not be resold. Donated product should never be resold.

If Users decide that a transaction will be a “loan/borrowing” situation, it is up to the Users to draft their own legal arrangement and contract with regard to loaning and borrowing product.
