About Us

Helping With Supply Chain Resilience

MedMate is a new concept for supply chain and procurement professionals within Canada. It is a platform to match and connect healthcare providers that are in need of products, with other healthcare providers or suppliers that may have extra product to offer. This does not replace any of the regular purchasing activity that occurs. This site connects professionals across the country in times or shortages, excess, or when searching for difficult-to-find items.

A platform for users to connect and share extra medical devices and equipment across Canada

Users create a profile and subscribe to access the Exchange Dashboards. Users are set up as either healthcare provider facilities or suppliers of product

Users can either browse “Listings”, create “Listings”, or connect with ”Listings.”

A User would create a ”Listing” if they are in search of a product or have extra product to offer. Listings are created in 1 of 3 categories: Urgent – Looking For; Non-Urgent - Looking For; Have Product to Offer.

If you see a “Listing” that you would like to connect with, the creator of the ”Listing” is notified and can accept the connection; at that point, you are connected via email and can transact offline.

If you have created a Listing and another User would like to connect, you will be notified and can accept the connection. At that point, you are connected via email and can transact offline.

Facts And Information

A Johns Hopkins research team reports that major hospitals across the U.S. collectively throw away at least $15 million a year in unused operating room surgical supplies that could be salvaged and used to ease critical shortages…

Many players are involved in the health product supply chain, including manufacturers, distributors, importers, health care organizations, community and hospital pharmacies, and retailers. Each has a role to play and has deep knowledge about their part of the supply chain, but knowledge and understanding of other parts of the supply can be limited.
Improving everyone's knowledge about the supply chain and sharing this knowledge among everyone will help build resilience against shortages.

One of the reasons Canada is vulnerable to shortages is that it's a small market, representing only about 2% of global drug and medical device sales.

Many healthcare facilities already have a policy in place for surplus equipment disposal, and have the option to sell, trade, or donate to a third party.

Industry experts estimate that as much as 20% of an organization’s inventory can be excess and not moving. This includes medical equipment and supplies. Some products may have been aggressively procured or manufactured simply because they were over forecasted, or did not move for a variety of reasons.
