Purpose:

MedMate is a new platform for sharing in times of short supply or surplus medical equipment and supplies in Canada. In the interest of Supply Chain Resilience and better utilization of medical products within the country, the platform aims to provide a forum for supply procurement professionals across the country to connect and share products in times of need.

Process:

Users can subscribe to the platform with an initial free trial. After the trial period, a credit card will be charged a nominal annual subscription fee, which gives users ongoing access to the Listing Dashboard. The subscription can be canceled at any time and can be canceled before the chargeable subscription.

Users can create Listings - these can be a listing to search for a difficult-to-find item or item in short supply, or can be a listing to offer something for sale, trade, re-purpose to another facility (ie surplus equipment, shelving, products). Users can also browse listings that have been posted by others in the industry. When another user wishes to connect with a listing, the creator of the listing has the option to accept or reject the connection. If the creator of the listing accepts the connection, a very small connection fee is charged. This model allocates the fees to the more frequent users of the platform.

Payoff:

Being a part of this platform provides one common platform for users and suppliers of medical products and equipment in Canada. It is a small contribution toward Supply Chain Resiliency initiatives:

  • • Saves time for procurement professionals
  • • Helps connect facilities quickly in time of shortages for better patient care
  • • Provides a forum to find users for surplus equipment and products
  • • Keeps excess product in the country and can help with utilization
  • • Helps find new users for extra supplies and equipment vs going to waste
